Daffodil Peruvian The leaves are strap-like and may be up to two feet long. Peruvian daffodils are hardy in zones 8 to 10, but can be grown outside this range if the bulbs are dug and stored in a frost-free location over winter. This daffodil may be started indoors and it is very fragrant. Each stem may hold 2 to 5 flowers, which are white with green stripes. The Peruvian Daffodil, 'Ismene Festalis', produce large flower clusters that rise from Amaryllis-like foliage. The 4-inch flowers are borne atop 2-foot, leafless flower stalks in midsummer.

We're not sure what the penalty was for infringing this law, but it can't have been very pleasant. There are also tree peonies with yellow or purple flowers. The Chinese refer to the tree peony as 'Moutan'. While the tree peony originated in China, it had found its way to Japan by the 8th Century AD. Japanese tree peonies tend to have less double flowers than their Chinese peers, and the flowers are more open and delicate.
Crocosmia Lucifer The Crocosmia Lucifer, 'Crocosmia x crocosmiiflora', a spring planted corm, produces beautiful red flowers. The flowers are very showy, and they make great cut flowers. The Crocosmia is also commonly known as Monbretia. This plant has attractive foliage. Crocosmias are clump forming and bloom best in crowded conditions.

It has been named Perennial of the Year. Although the blooms will last only for one day, there are many blooms on strong stems that rise above tall grassy foliage, (remove in late fall).

Gladiolus Cheops The Gladiolus Cheops, 'Gladioli', a spring planted corm, exhibits magnificent white flowers with a pink blush on tall stalks. In frost prone areas, dig them when the leaves turn yellow, dip them in a fungicide, and store in a dry frost free location over winter.
