Blueberry - Jersey
The Jersey Blueberry, Vaccinium 'Jersey', has a dark blue fruit that is small to medium in size and very sweet in flavor. It has an upright and open growth habit. It is suitable for mechanical harvesting. This blueberry grows best on sites where most other crops fail. Prune as needed in late winter beginning in the third year after planting. Jersey is one of the oldest, most widely grown varieties and is easy to grow in most soil types. It performs well on loose textured soils--mixtures of sand and peat are best. It ripens in August and is a very reliable producer every year. The bush is very vigorous and productive. Blueberries are a gourmet treat that may be eaten fresh or used in cobbler, cake, sauce, jam, jelly or syrup. Birds love blueberries so be sure to plant enough to share!.
